A SERBIAN friend of mine, a former professional footballer and a fanatical golfer, will not be doing any business tomorrow. He will be at the opening of Cyprus latest golf course – the Eléa golf course some 5 miles from Paphos airport.
The golf course was designed by former Open and Masters champion Sir Nick Faldo MBE and he will be in Cyprus tomorrow to open it officially.
According to a press release issued by Eléa Estates earlier this year:
The Eléa Golf Club, which is situated in Paphos and 8km from the international airport, will be the centrepiece of Eléa Estate, a premium development that will boast luxurious villas and apartments, a boutique hotel supported by a range of dining options and extensive spa facilities.
This magnificent par 71 golf course commands a striking location above the shimmering Mediterranean Sea and has been meticulously crafted through dramatic landscape, featuring imposing weathered outcrops of limestone that offer a unique character across the course.
Commenting on his vision for Eléa Golf Club, Sir Nick Faldo said: “This golf course certainly has the potential to play a pivotal role in establishing this part of the world as a leading European golf destination.
“When we designed the golf course at Eléa Golf Club we decided to put the emphasis on thoughtful, rather than big-hitting, golf and there are plenty of strategic riddles for the golfer to explore and unravel over all 18 holes.”

I have no doubt that my friend Stevo will be keen to play a round or two of golf with Sir Nick on his new course. If he does, I’ll let you know how well he played.
Clearly Mr Faldo is unaware of the many problems that exist in Cyprus. If he was I don’t think he would put his name to any thing connected with Cyprus.
Permanent water shortage in summer in Paphos is routine…. it will be worse from now on.
This only shows that nobody cares, what so ever…
How many golf courses needed within 20km radius?? Is water shortage over?? Have they all gone mad??
And who is paying for/providing the water for this?
