Cyprus to host international real estate congress

THE 62ND annual world congress of the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) will take place in Paphos from May 16 to May 21, it was announced yesterday.

Speaking at press conference yesterday Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Antonis Paschalides hailed the announcement as “a very important professional and economic event.

He said: “I am sure this will be a great success.A Congress of such international calibre honours Cyprus and has both political and financial benefits”… All professions can benefit from this great major international conference in Cyprus.

Paschalides also said he was pleased that the event would take place in Paphos because of its recent real estate difficulties, and that the congress would be a “big injection” for the area.

FIABCI President Dinos Michaelides said “We are all very honoured by the awarding of the annual World Congress in our small country” adding that it will not only highlight Cyprus but would attract further investment from the delegates, who have invested in Congress host countries in the past.

For example, Michaelides said that during this year’s annual Congress in Indonesia purchases amounted to almost 1 billion dollars while at the congress in Greece 1450 delegates turned up.

President of the Republic Demetris Christofias is to open the Congress.

Cyprus Federation of Business and Land Development President Lakis Tofarides also welcomed the news, thanking Michaelides for bringing the congress to Cyprus, which he described as “a weapon to our arsenal” that would strengthen the political entity of Cyprus.

FIABCI has more than 3,500 members from more than 70 countries and is the umbrella for all the organisations related to property development. It is the only real estate organization represented at the United Nations’ ECOSOC and UNECE.

  1. WOW ! this is Absolutely Brilliant news for all Gardeners .

The amount of Bull**** there should be enough for everyone’s garden.

Who knows perhaps an export market could be opened up. And if at this meeting developers , estate agents , lawyers, etc, etc ,could attend, we would have enough to cover the whole island and turn the arid areas green.

  2. Aphrodite coming up from the watering hole for the third time . Doesn’t it all paint a rosy picture of the Cyprus property market.

Let us hope the voice of property buyers without Title Deeds gets heard and understood. The estimated 130,000 people who are having sleepless nights worrying about banks taking their homes away.

Those same people who keep asking, why did my lawyer fail me?

  3. This has to be a joke surely!

Does no one in the FIABCI have even half a brain? To host such an event in Cyprus, the property pariah of the world, is an insult to the thousands of people still waiting for their Title Deeds!

If this event goes ahead the FIABCI will become a laughing stock and lose any credibility they may have had.

  4. Does FIABCI not run the risk of being dubbed FIASCO over choosing, of all places, Cyprus? With the Title Deeds plus fraud scandal, they are going to look more than a little ridiculous – or worse appear to be condoning the scandal.

Has no one at FIABCI headquarters got a clue what is going on here?

  5. What a perfect opportunity for all Cyprus property owners without their Legal Title Deeds to tell the world about the scam ridden Cypriot Property Market.

Who’s going to organise the protests?
